Non-verbal communication
As soon as we contact others you start communicating. Communication is usually looked upon as the transfer of information from one person to another.
Understanding each other’s messages is clearly essential to establishing good relations with your clients. Although people usually identify communication with speech, communication can be verbal as well as non-verbal. The following channels of non-verbal communication carry as much information as the verbal message. Aspects of non-verbal communication are: Touch, Eye contact, Gestures, Personal space, Timing matters, Usage of the voice.
Multicultural non-verbal differences are enormous and open to misinterpretation.
The ability to recognize and understand a client’s non-verbal communication will help you to avoid potentially costly misunderstandings.
